Welcome to Ocean Compass Group

Southampton Dry Stack was founded in 2006. As its portfolio expanded to include Quayside Marina, brokerage and new boat sales  - Ocean Compass Group was born.

Ocean Compass Group is a customer service leisure business  - no matter whether it is a service or product we are providing, we strive to provide refreshingly high levels of customer service that exceeds expectations.

Stingher Ribs

Stingher Ribs are conveniently based in the south coast’s boating capital of Southampton and home of the Southampton Boat show.

Edward Pedley of MRL first started importing Stingher Ribs into the UK from Italy in 2004. These are built and designed by Giuseppe Risolo with his son Andrea and they have been building Ribs since 1987. They are always striving to improve their Ribs and it shows with the strength and finish that they achieve.

In 2006 MRL moved to Southampton Dry Stack, which is the UK’s largest Dry Stack, with undercover storage, and direct frontage onto the River Itchen.

During that time MRL and Southampton Dry Stack have forged a close and trusted relationship, and in late 2020 both Edward Pedley of MRL and Bill Knight of Southampton Dry Stack decided to form a partnership selling the World renowned Stingher Ribs and together taking it on to new heights.

New additional sales office in Salcombe in association with Fine & Classic.

Meet the team

Bill Knight

Having obtained his yacht-master power and sail qualifications after university, he spent many years working in the Caribbean and France instructing. On his return to the UK he joined a large marina operator and ran 'Ocean Village', (marina and commercial estate) for them. After a trip to Florida where ‘Dry Stacking’ your boat is the norm, it seemed the ideal venture to set up for the benefit of Solent boat owners.

Alex Jones

Alex has worked in the confidential goods industry for the last 10 years, eager to learn about the boating industry he has joined the team! In his spare time he enjoys travelling, photography and all things technology.

Jake Smith

Jake has had a passion for all things boating all his life. As an offshore Yachtmaster he is a knowledgable and enthusiastic sailor, spending most of his free time cross country cycling, sailing and being lucky enough to race yachts. Previously, Jake has worked in the construction industry as a carpenter for 28 years, but is now looking forward to working in the marine industry.

Rob Mills

Joins us from Bembridge Harbour where he worked for 5 years as the berthing master. Rob has always had a passion for boats and has previously worked as a skipper on a 90ft sailing training yacht. He is a keen biker, loves F1 and Southampton Football Club.

Laura Mills

Laura has worked in Finance for the last 19 years, moving from her last job in the Cycling Industry, to join the team. She knows nothing about boats so will stick to the office!

Steve Frampton

Steve started in the building and construction trade and then worked in a sheet metal workshop before moving into high voltage electrical installations. He has always been interested in boats and at 15 was taught by a family friend how to launch their 30ft boat off a trailer two different ways without getting the car wet! In his late teens, he started Canadian canoeing and kayaking and reached competition standard in both.

Ray Ridout

Ray joins the team with a background in sign making and graphics. He enjoys sailing, having accomplished a Competent Crew Amory Award when he was younger. He now has a micro cruiser and is currently restoring it. His hobbies include cycling, MMA Brazilian Jui Jitsu and Muay Thai kickboxing.
